What does waterproof mean?
A waterproof earbud means the earbuds can survive underwater for a definite time. According to web information this is about a minimum of 3 minutes. It should be protected in heavy water, water splashing, and under water immersion. There will be no or tends to be no harm on water touch.
What does water resist?
Water resistance is a lower class of waterproof. Earbuds that can tolerate water touch, normal or light rain, being protected when it immerses for a very short time.
As I like, water resist is better than waterproof. I know you will laugh at me for this. But I have a logical statement for myself. Waterproof earbuds production is costly and for that they are costly in price. On the other hand, water resist earbuds are less costly and can tolerate rain, water contact. If I do not swim with that then why I buy extra feature that is not needed usually. So, water resist earbuds save my pocket and protect me from water contamination.
